“A Mother’s Plea”

Matt.15:21-28,
Matthew 15:21–28 KJV 1900
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
(Uses the old name Canaanite)…enemy of Israel…Syrophoenician
Had no dealings…didn’t eat, play, ride or go to school together.
Crying for Mercy…Even called Jesus by His Jewish name “Messiah”
…She recognized who Jesus was…He was in her neck of the woods.
Vs. 23, Jesus didn’t respond to her ...
Don’t take silence as rejection or denial
What seems to be working against you, is actually working in your favor.
In the midst of Jesus discouraging her w/His words, this Mother still reverenced Him.
If Jesus doesn’t give you what you want, when you want it, can you still worship Him?
Humbled herself (despite the name calling, insults)…she didn’t get offended.
According to 1 Peter 5:5 - For God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Mother put her child’s needs before her own.
Resilient - able to withstand through difficult situations.
The more Jesus pulled away from her, the more she pulled on Him.
Disciples (bothered by this Mother’s persistence/request).
Just like some ppl…it don’t take all that! (that’s that Mother’s child).
You gotta be “Persistent” - don’t give up
Even after the denial, discouragement & insults this Mother still worshipped Him.
She cried, Lord, Help ME...
How’s your response? Is it in Faith?
…this Mother was kinda like Jacob, who wrestled w/the Angel & said, “I’m not gonna let you go ‘til you bless me.
Jews was hard on Gentiles (Dogs), but I’m sure this Mother heard much about Jesus before His arrival.
Put pressure on Jesus…she knew she didn’t deserve God’s Grace, but she knew Jesus had what she needed.
YET EVEN(ESV) - cry of Mercy…Yes, I know I’m a Gentile(she knew who she was), I know you came for the Jews, but I believe that Your grace, mercy reaches past the Jews to all people.
Matt.15:27,
Matthew 15:27 KJV 1900
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
”Lil Crumb Snatcher”
You shall have what you speak, in Faith
FINALLY, Jesus says something positive “O Woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.
God will give you the desires of your heart.
Notice here…
Jesus didn’t commend her on her request but her Faith!
Faith is not move God, but to move you to believe Him.
Faith doesn’t move God, it pleases Him.
Faith is not Faith until it’s been tested
…she didn’t let her pride prevail…she stayed at feet level(humble).
Most people miss out of God’s Grace, because they would’ve rejected Jesus.
Your Resilence will lead you to your Redemption.
…this Mother got what she prayed for…Immediately!
